One example is Sarah, a St. Charles County Head Start parent.  Before Sarah found Head Start through Youth In Need, her life was in serious trouble. She was dealing with an unplanned teenage pregnancy, had dropped out of school to live with a boyfriend, and had severed ties with her family. After re-enrolling in school, Sarah began attending the Parents as Teachers program the school provided for teen parents. While attending one of these meetings, she met a representative of Youth In Need’s Missouri Early Head Start program, who enrolled her in EHS and began making home visits weekly.  She stressed the importance of self-esteem and establishing goals. Sarah had her baby, graduated from high school, enrolled in St. Charles Community College, and is now a Head Start teacher.
