Infant Oral Care Training
Presented by: the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services &
The Health Resources and Services Administration Maternal Child Health Bureau,
In partnership with The Missouri Head Start-State Collaboration Office, the Missouri Head Start Association, Central Missouri Community Action-Head Start and the Missouri Primary Care Association
Early Head Start and Head Start health staff will have a unique opportunity to attend training in infant and pediatric oral health with Dr. Francisco Ramos-Gomez, a recognized pediatric dentist and Head Start Oral Health Consultant. We are pleased to invite Head Start health staff to share in this experience to learn:
- Clinical science and best practices for the oral health of Early Head Start and Head Start children including oral screening and when to refer a child to a dentist
- Family education in oral health and the use of fluoride for dental disease prevention
- Behavior management and techniques for use with very young children in the dental setting
- Risk assessment, family oral health education and application of fluoride varnish

Space for the training is limited so you must register in advance. The first 30 people to register will be accepted to the training. Complete and send the attached registration page by March 31, 2008. Confirmations will be sent following the close of registration.
Reception: On Thursday, April 17, 2008 the Head Start Collaboration Office and the Missouri Department of Health will sponsor an evening reception and presentation “Focus on Oral Health Statewide Best Practices” from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Hors D'oeuvres will be provided.
Logistics: Lodging will be provided at a local hotel in Columbia for those who are traveling more than 60 miles. There will be a reception Breakfast will be provided on April 18th. You are responsible for all other expenses to attend this training.
About our Speaker: Francisco Ramos-Gomez, D.D.S., M.S., M.P.H., is affiliated with the UCLA Community Health Pediatric Dentistry Program. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a former executive board member of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry and President of the Hispanic Dental Association. He received a D.D.S. in pediatric dentistry from Tufts University School of Dentistry in 1988 and an M.P.H. from Harvard University, School of Public Health, Department of Policy and Management in 1990. Dr. Ramos-Gomez received certification in dental epidemiology and dental public health from UCSF in 1992.
